A few photos of the over-sized chess pieces at a park near my home

Photographer, Photographed
As a photographer, very few photographers of me exist. I’m always behind the camera and I’m okay with that. It’s awkward to find myself on the other wise of the lens. I’m not good at posing and I’m constantly thinking about how I would frame things, the way I would focus the lens, what aperture and shutter speed I would set the camera at.
Still, as my due date draws closer, I hear my own advice echoing around in my head. I love photographing families because it allows me to capture these fleeting moments. I’ve come to realize how short nine months can be – and how long those same nine months can drag on! I want to have photographs of this time in my life.
I haven’t felt especially photogenic over the last week or two. I feel puffy and poorly balanced. I need a hair cut and just about every article of clothing I own is now tight. But while on a location scouting trip to Lancaster, I passed my camera to my husband, Joe, and asked him to take a few pictures of me in the poppy fields. Joe always insists he’s not very good at shooting stills, but I think he did a wonderful job.

Katy & Andrew
Katy and Andrew are expecting twins! For their maternity session, we went to Fisherman’s Village. Katy, an avid rower, was excited to take photographs in the Marina. All the boats made a beautiful, unique backdrop that means so much to Andrew & Katy.
I love to take photographs in places that are import to my clients. I’ve never like the artificial feel of a studio. I’d much rather be out in the world, capturing life as it happens!

Welcome to the world, Ella!
Ella wasn’t quite ready to begin her photo shoot!
Parents usually worry that their children will be uncooperative – and most of the time they’re right! It never bothers me when a baby cries. I know that with enough time and patients, even the most agitated baby will calm down and we’ll get some beautiful photographs!
I love the bond between mother and baby. There is a specially look that babies only give their mothers. It’s one of the most beautiful things I’ve seen. It’s always an honor to capture these early moments.

Hello world!
A picture may be worth a thousand words, but sometimes words are good too. There are so many stories attached to the photographs I take and I’ve wanted to share those stories for some time. Now, as Joe & I prepare to enter parenthood at the beginning of May (my official due date is May 6th!), I’ve finally take the time to sit down and begin to write.
I hope that you enjoy my photographs and the stories that go with them. Each person, each family has a unique store and I hope that I’ve been able to capture that story in some small part. I think of my craft as “family journalism” – the art of chronicling people and families as they change and grow. It’s always a beautiful journey and I’ve been so blessed to be able to share in so many lives.
