I received my very first camera as a gift when I was 10 or 11. I immediately gathered my beloved dolls and stuffed animals and set them up for portraits among my parent's flower boxes. By the time I began high school, I knew I wanted to take photographs for the rest of my life.
I studied photojournalism at Kent State University in Ohio, where I learned to view a photograph as a moment forever frozen in time. I chose to pursue my love of photography out in the world instead of in a studio because I believe the best photographs happen by chance, not by careful posing.
After moving to California with my husband and earning my degree, I shot weddings for several years. Along the way I discovered my true love for portrait photography. Great portraits capture more than the way we look: they capture who we are. That is my aim in every portrait session. I shoot people in the places that they know and love, places that are part of their lives. While children grow so quickly and our lives move so fast, I am able to preserve some part of those moments and memories before they disappear. I truly love shooting portraits and hope that is obvious in each photograph that I take.
